Spanish Teacher Job Description


We are excited to invite you to look into joining our enthusiastic and talented Spanish teachers at Terra Marin School, working with preschool, elementary, and middle school students. Our Spanish teachers also share their knowledge of Spanish culture and tradition through class celebrations and special events. 


We are currently seeking a 3/4 full-time Spanish teacher position (if you seek full-time, we can combine other subject teachings to your coursework).  Each Spanish class has 5-15 students, ranging from Kindergarten to 8th grade. You will lead 4-5 different classes a day, starting from 11:00 am – 3:30 pm, five days a week.

Qualification Requirements:

  • A passion for working with young people

  • An openness to professional development and continuous learning

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • A pleasant approach to work and a sense of humor

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and proficient in English 

  • Able to speak to parents and write report cards in English

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Education, ECE, or English

  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience

  • Proficient technology skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use Spanish to interact with and provide instruction to PK-8th grade students to help children become proficient in Spanish.

  • Demonstrate appropriate planning and preparation for Spanish instruction.

  • Develop and maintain a classroom atmosphere centered on intellectual inquiry and student engagement.

  • Foster classroom community through inclusionary, compassionate, and supportive practices.

  • Uphold professional standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion.

  • Overtly support and act in accordance with the school’s mission and values.

  • Actively engage in implementing the school's curriculum and educational mission of Spanish project-based practices and values.

  • Educate students on the semantic and syntactic aspects of the Spanish language through content-based inquiry. 

  • Share knowledge of key Spanish holidays, such as Cinco de Mayo and other holidays.

  • Collaborate with co-teachers, plan and implement curriculum through the project approach that reflects a balance of the children's interests and teacher interests/provocations.

  • Demonstrate appropriate planning and preparation for Spanish instruction.

  • Prepare students to understand and deliver presentations for parents, colleagues, and community members on traditional Spanish cuisine, music, art, and poetry.

  • Honor the confidentiality of school and student information.

  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Engage in self-reflection and professional development through goal-setting professional development opportunities and ongoing dialog with division directors.

  • Establish a strong classroom diversity culture for learning that is positive, inclusive, restorative, and contributes to the school community.
